Sedation

We understand that dental treatment can sometimes be difficult, especially when treating children. Our office offers several options to help make the patient comfortable, reduce anxiety, and help them tolerate dental work. The level of sedation depends on the patient's needs and the procedure being performed.

Conscious sedation

Our office offers Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) which is a mixture of oxygen and nitrous breathed through a mask that helps relax the patient. It’s fast-acting and wears off quickly after the procedure.

Oral sedatives: Our office also offers oral sedatives which is a oral medication that is administered at the office based on weight and age. This technique is used to help patients relax during dental procedures while still being awake and able to respond to instructions

Intravenous (IV) sedation

IV sedation which is administered through an IV line, allows for a deeper sedation. This may be indicated in some situations based on the amount of work, age of the patient and dental anxiety. Our office works with a team of highly trained anesthesiologists who administer and monitor your child during this procedure to help us provide treatment that may otherwise be difficult to complete while awake. The doctors will assess and help determine if this sedation is the best option for your child.

Hospital

In some cases, it may be more difficult to treat your child due to complex medical conditions, disabilities, or other circumstances that require more intensive care than what can be provided in a regular dental office. Hospital dentistry combines dental care with medical expertise to treat patients in situations where standard dental office settings may not be suitable. Our office has privileges at Rady’s Children’s Hospital where we are able to safely attend to your child’s dental care if needed.
